Citizen Kane

After seeing this film, i cant say it was really entertaining but i did gain a lot of respect it. For its time, its cinematography, characters and plots were very impressive. The magnitude and detail of the sets used in the film were pretty amazing, especially the last crane shot of Kane's merchandise. I personally liked how they used a snow globe to represent his childhood since the beginning of the story started with him in the snow, I thought it tied everything in pretty good. Using the phrase "rosebud" to also represent Kane's lost childhood was creative. I liked how you only saw it two times, once with Kane in the snow, and the second being put into the fire after his death, kind of marking the end of Charles Foster Kane's life. I thought it was great that Orson Wells took a chance by putting William Randolph Hearst's life into the movie. I'm guessing that this move inspired some other film makers to work with more controversial material. I thought that breaking up the story into different interviews of eye witnesses added a lot to the film and gave it some realism.
I personally didn't like all the still shots and closeups. It seemed to make the movie go by to slow and was repetitive. I think they should have added more creative angles and camera movement. One thing I still want to understand is the purpose for the parrot at the opening of that one scene.

Good Movies

I really enjoy movies with a lot of action, suspense and comedies. The more confused i am while watching the film the more i enjoy it because it keeps me guessing. Some of my favorite films are 3:10 to Yuma, Master and Commander, School of Rock, Spinal Tap, Tommy Boy and Band of Brothers.
